Glucocorticoids are potent immunosuppressive hormones involved in a variety of immunological disorders. Because glucocorticoids have paradoxical effects in different cell types, transcriptional regulation by glucocorticoids in T cells has been studied in depth. Recent advances in the field of transcriptional regulation have allowed us to distinguish the direct effects of the hormone from the indirect, membrane-mediated effects. Furthermore, the mechanism of action of the hormone, its receptors and the co-regulatory proteins involved in the various effects are now being elucidated. In this review, we discuss recent advances in the field of T-cell glucocorticoid receptor function and how these findings may lead to therapeutic strategies in immunological disease.Peter Wotipka Peter Wotipka is a former Professor of Industrial Design and currently a Professor of Interior Design at the University of Toronto and currently the director of the Centre for Sustainable Home Designs at the University of Toronto. Wotipka was educated at the Universiteit Leiden, the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, the University of California, Berkeley, the Royal College of Art in London, and the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. He was the co-founder, with Charles E. Wilson, of the Canadian Pavilion at the 1967 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Montreal. He was later editor of the Progressive Design Review, which Wilson also edited. Wotipka has been a visiting professor at the University of Kansas (1989), the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the University of Maryland. He is a frequent contributor to various publications, including Interior Design, CAD and Related Industries, Interior Design, and Time and Materials. Selected works Wotipka, P.
